FULLY INVOLVED
Quick review. While flames are a perfectly acceptable design concept for liturgical vestments, it's probably best not to have them coming from that direction.

Re: flames
Though it probably suits whoever dares to wear it...
You just know that this is lined with flaming red fur and that the person wearing it will be sauntering over to the organ at some point during the service, throwing back the cape, and smiling as he pounds out a soothing and even-tempered version of Old Man Lazarus with his bejeweled fingers.
The Cope worn by Lord Carey at this enthronement as Archbishop of Canterbury. Juliet Hemmingray was the designer, has a matching mitre as well. I personally think this cope is OUTSTANDING! Although I agree with most of the opinions on this site - I think you have this one WRONG. +Christian
As noted above, this was made for Carey's enthronement as ABC.
As it happens, I was at the next Lambeth conference. We (my family) walked into the exhibition tent, which was filled with booths from vendors of all kinds of church-y products like vestments, pews, stained-glass windows, music publishers, etc. We rounded a corner and saw this cope -- with its matching mitre -- displayed on a mannequin. My mother and I immediately began discussing how awful it was; we certainly weren't shouting, but neither were we whispering. My father leaned forward and pointed out that the designer was sitting about 4 or 5 feet away from us, and could probably hear every word. As you might imagine, we were mortified.

One cope to bring them,
to Mordor, where the eye of Sauron watches
Whoever designed it ought be 'fired'...
How about reviving a historical era that isn't the 60s?

Made for the Enthronement of
Scary George Carey for his enthronement as the Archbishop of Canterbury.
TeddyG: the person would be channeling the spirit of Liberace I assume.

Didn't Liberace wear this on one of his appearances on the Ed Sullivan show?
I could see this as "Flaming appropriate" for a Mafia funeral. . . .
Elvis has left the building!
If Elvis had a cope.
And, you know, Elvis is the King
